Carnival of Venice-Venetian Masks

Venetian masks are a centuries-old tradition of Venice,Italy!Worn during the Carnevale, however In the past, the masks have been used on many other occasions as a device for hiding the wearer's identity and social status.

They come in all different colors and they can be full-face masks or eye masks.Near the end of the Republic, the wearing of masks in daily life was severely restricted.It was gradually shortened into the week-long festivities that now comprise the Carnevale.

Wearing Venetian masks has spread to Halloween masquerade balls and what North and South Americans call Mardi Gras,but they always carry their rich Italian history.
